Hype Upsell

Where to see how your upsells are doing

Updated Sep 10, 20263 min read

Hype Upsell does not yet report conversion or revenue inside the app. The home page tells you what is configured and whether each surface is set up; the results themselves are read from your Shopify orders.

That is an honest limitation rather than a setting you have missed. Reporting is on the roadmap.

What the home page shows

The Checkout surfaces card

A one-line summary: "You have X/Y surfaces set up." Click the count to open Checkout surfaces status, which lists all three surfaces with:

  • Post-purchase page"Hype must be selected as the post-purchase app under Settings → Checkout."
  • Thank you page"The Hype Upsell block must be added to the Thank you page in the checkout editor."
  • Checkout"The Hype Upsell block must be added to the checkout in the checkout editor. Shopify Plus only."

Each row shows one of three things: a green check for a surface that is set up, a red cross with a Set up button that deep-links into Shopify, or the note "Placement can't be verified from here. Check the checkout editor." when the placement cannot be read. On stores that are not on Shopify Plus, the Checkout row shows a Shopify Plus badge instead of a state.

The card counts only the surfaces available to your store, so a non-Plus store sees a count out of 2, and a Plus store a count out of 3. The badge on the right reads N Active, or Inactive when none are.

This card describes your store's setup, not any single upsell. A surface being set up does not mean an upsell is running on it, and an Active upsell does not mean its surface is set up. Both are needed.

The upsell list

Each row shows the upsell's name, how many offer products it has, its Surface and its status — Active or Draft. The row's actions menu holds Enable, Disable and Delete.

The setup guide

Get started with Hype Upsell tracks two tasks, Create your first upsell and Set up your checkout surface, and shows "X of 2 tasks complete". It disappears once both are done, or when you dismiss it.

Measuring results in Shopify

Accepted upsells become ordinary Shopify order lines, so your Shopify admin is where the numbers live:

  • Open an order and look at its line items. A line added by an upsell carries the upsell's discount, labelled with your Discount title or with the automatic label ("15% off", "10 off", "Special price").
  • Give each upsell a distinctive Discount title before you launch it — tick Use custom discount title in the Offer section. It is the only marker that travels onto the order, and it is what makes accepted offers findable later.
  • For the Checkout surface, every checkout upsell in your store shares one automatic discount named Hype Upsell Discount (Do not delete), so they appear as a single discount in your Discounts list. Distinct discount titles are what separate them on the orders themselves.
  • Thank-you accepts appear as an edit on the order, so the added line shows up after the original items.

What is not measured

  • There is no impression, click or conversion-rate figure in the app.
  • There is no per-upsell revenue total.
  • Declines are not surfaced anywhere.

If you need these now, the practical approach is a distinct Discount title per upsell and a periodic look at your orders.
