Changes take a while to appear
Updated Sep 10, 20264 min read
A change you make in Hype Upsell is saved instantly, but several caches sit between the admin and what a shopper sees. Most changes are visible within a few minutes. This article says which layer holds what, and how long each one holds it, so you know when to wait and when something is actually wrong.
The layers, longest first
| Layer | How long | Who clears it |
|---|---|---|
| Your browser | Until you refresh | Hard-refresh, or an incognito window |
| Shopify's storefront CDN | Minutes, decided by Shopify | Shopify. Hype cannot clear it |
| Hype's storefront data cache | Cleared automatically every 10 minutes | Itself, or Settings → Cache → Clear Cache where the app has it |
| Hype's plan and access checks | Up to 5 minutes | Itself |
| Cross-app subscription checks | Re-confirmed once a day | Itself, or immediately when the subscription changes |
Storefront changes
Give it up to about 10 minutes, then hard-refresh (Cmd+Shift+R on macOS, Ctrl+F5 on Windows) and check in an incognito window.
To skip the wait, clear Hype's own cache: Settings → Cache → Clear Cache in the apps that have that section. That does not clear Shopify's CDN, which is why a hard refresh is still worth doing after it.
If nothing has appeared after 15 minutes, stop waiting — it is not a cache problem. Work through the Nothing shows on my storefront checklist instead: the usual answers are something still in draft, a setup step never finished, or a change saved on a theme that is not published.
Checkout and post-purchase changes
Changes to offers that render at checkout, on the thank-you page or after payment are not cached by Hype for long, but they are only visible on a real order flow. The only reliable check is to place a test order and follow it through. What you see in an editor preview is not always what a shopper gets.
Theme editor changes
A block you add or a setting you change in the theme editor is not live until you click Save. After saving, Shopify's CDN still needs a moment. If you are editing a theme you have not published, the change will never appear on your live store no matter how long you wait.
Billing figures on the Plan page
- Paid orders this cycle is read from Shopify each time the page loads, so it is current when you look at it.
- Charges are worked out on a schedule rather than the instant an order lands. Hype re-checks every four hours, and again when your store takes an order — throttled so it runs at most once every 15 minutes per store. It also checks twice near the end of each cycle.
So an order that pushes you into a new tier will show in the order count straight away, and the matching charge appears in Billing history within a few hours. That is normal.
Plan and access changes
After you approve, cancel or change a subscription, the app's own access check can lag by up to 5 minutes. If you approved a plan and a page still asks you to choose one, reload after a minute or two.
Where a Hype Suite subscription is held by one app and honored by the others, the others re-confirm it with the holder about once a day, and immediately when the subscription changes. So buying, upgrading or cancelling a Suite is reflected in the other apps quickly, not a day later.
Smart collection membership
In apps that target Shopify smart collections, membership is refreshed on a schedule rather than watched continuously. Where the app offers Settings → Sync smart collections → Sync Now, use it after changing a smart collection's rules if you need the change reflected immediately.
When it is not a cache
Waiting will not help if:
- The campaign, offer or cart is still a draft, or its start date is in the future.
- A setup step is incomplete — a theme app embed left off, or a checkout surface never enabled.
- The block is on a template your products do not use.
- The offer targets a market, country or customer segment you do not match.
